What’s Kombucha?
Kombucha is that sweet-sour fizzy drink made with tea. Did you know that kombucha has been around for more than 2,000 years? It became popular in the United States because of its health benefits. So what’s in it? Glad you asked. The main ingredients to kombucha is yeast, tea, and sugar. Once mixed up, it’s set aside for a week or more. During this process, a small amount of alcohol as well as bacteria and acid is formed. Just like kimchi or yogurt, this process is called fermentation.
So where are the health benefits? Well….kombucha bacteria has lactic-acid, that works as a probiotic. It also contains vitamin B. Depending on the type of tea used, kombucha can provide antioxidants. Protecting cells from damage. As well as burning fat, lowering cholesterol and blood sugar levels. For these types of benefits, the kombucha needs to be made from green tea.
Our favorite kombucha brand is Health-Ade. What’s yours?
