Type of White Wine
Starting off with the key player to this drink. The wine duh! So, when it comes to picking the right wine for any occasion, it’s highly important to only pick wines you personally would want to drink by itself. There’s so many options of white wines…but not all are created equal. Basically the grapes are fermented to turn into wine….but the climate, soil, and region are what sets them a part. Now we are not going to bore you with an entire history lesson on white wine. Instead, you’ll find below are top two choices for a killer white wine sangria.
- Sauvignon Blanc – When all else fails…reach for Sauvignon blanc. It’s a well balanced wine with notes of citrus and high acidity.
- Pinot Grigio or Pinot Gris – This wine is light-bodied with amazing fresh/floral aromas.
Summer Fruits
When it’s summer summer summer time…there’s so many amazing fruit options. Truly the sky is the limit, but if you’re like us. Too many options can be overwhelming. So below is a short list of our go-to fruit for a fantastic white wine sangria.
- Peaches – It’s summer time and who does not love juicy tasty peaches?
- Apples – Some white wines actually have notes of apples. So it would be a great addition to the sangria.
- Berries– Adds a pop of color.
- Citrus – From the previous section you know that Sauvignon blanc has notes of citrus. So the use of oranges, limes, or lemons would help bring out the notes of the wine even more.
- Grapes – Of Course wine is made with grapes….so it’s a total no-brainer to add grapes into the sangria.
Making the White Wine Sangria
Making this drink is pretty straight forward. The key to success here is to use frozen peaches (cuts down on the time to the wine). In a large pitcher add in the thawed sliced peaches. Next, using a cutting board cut a few apples into slices and add to the pitcher. After that, add in a few sprigs of fresh mint. Now the fun part! Pour in the white wine of choice and top off the sangria with peach schnapps and peach champagne or other bubbles for your struggles.
Just remember…you gotta keep things peachy!
