A bacon crostini is simply irresistible goodness. From the crunchy salty bacon to the gooey melted or heavenly whipped cheese. This crostini gives the perfect bite of happiness. Need we say more?
Making the Bacon Crostini
Making this appetizer is super simple with the least amount of dish cleaning. First, preheat the oven to the recommended temperature mentioned on the back of the bacon. In the meantime, line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Transfer the bacon to the prepared sheet pan and bake until crispy. Remove from the oven and drain the excess oil from the bacon. Next chop up the bacon and set aside.
Now it’s time to make a decision. Would you prefer melted cheese or whipped cheese?
Once you’ve made a decision, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice the baguette at least 1/4 inch thick. Then spread them out on the prepared pan. If using cheese, add the sliced cheese of choice over the sliced bread. Next top it off with BBQ onions and chopped bacon. And bake for 2-5 minutes or until cheese melts. If using whipped cheese, drizzle olive oil over the sliced baguette and toast them for 5-10 minutes or until golden brown. Spread the whipped cheese over the crostini followed by the BBQ onions and bacon. Voila you’re done!
BBQ Caramelized Onions
The icing on the cake our these incredible BBQ onions. Onions can bring a major flavor profile to any dish. In this recipe white onions are used, but any onion will work. In order to make the onions pop, they need to be cooked for a total of 25 minutes. First, sauté the onions in oil for roughly 5 minutes. During this time, season them with a little salt and pepper. Then, reduce the heat to low and let the onions become deep brown (caramelized). If during this process the onions start to stick to the pan, simply add a tablespoon of water. Allow to cook for 20 minutes on low heat. Next, add your favorite bbq sauce and allow to cook for 3-5 minutes.
